A few weeks ago my friend Ricci made an off-hand reference to Blur’s underrated 13, and I realized that it’s been years—years—since I’d spent any real time with it. I remember buying this the day it came out, taking the bus down the hill to Everyday Music and absorbing every “Song 2”-less word. I was 15, and knew nothing about love. It’s been a while since I went through a nasty breakup, but that doesn’t make this song any sweeter—”I hope you’re with someone who makes you feel safe in your sleep” is still a piercing, perfect line.

Also, on an unrelated note: Twice in the last month total strangers have stopped me on the street to say I look like Graham Coxon. I guess that’s a good thing, right?
